Ski-Opening Lungau

This year, yet again, the region greets winter sports fans with all kinds of new features. For the kids, a new practice area was constructed by the base station of the chair lift in St. Michael and the youngsters can now learn the basics of skiing with the help of a "Magic Carpet". The Smarty Farm is also new - a separate kids' restaurant in the Peterbauer Almstube. They will also be introduced to the farm animals and, once their week of ski instruction is done, they will be able to visit the animals "live" on the farm. Another new attraction awaits our daredevil youngsters in the Kids' Park with a new moguls' hill, obstacles, jumps and a Witches' Forest. And on the afternoon of New Year's Eve, well-known magician "SAMSARAS" will perform just for the kids. Also new this winter: the Path of Legend, taking us on a walk through history and back to the Middle Ages. The path takes us alongside the ski run, beginning at the summit station on the Grosseck and ending at the ski center in Mauterndorf. New info boards cast light on local legends, including the tale of the "Thurnschall Woman in Lessach" or the "Witch Ghost on the Speiereck".
Romantics have the opportunity in Lungau's ski areas to ski the night away amid the romantic ambience of floodlit slopes, followed afterwards by a party under the lights as well.
If you are looking to do something a little different this winter, you might want to take part in a course in wintertime driving here in the Lungau. Due to the exceptional conditions here in the Lungau, the water freezes over very quickly, meaning that participants in these winter-driving classes always have boundless fun on the broad, carefully designed training tracks. Both in St. Michael and in Thomatal, classes are offered in safe-driving (particularly for women and for learners), in personal safety, race driving, quadding (children's quads, all-wheel-drive quads, sports quads, cross-buggies), along with company and club events.
The official kick-off to ski season will be held on the Grosseck/Speiereck on 29.11.2008, Aineck-Katschberg and Fanningberg welcome the arrival of the winter season at the beginning of December. Fantastic packages for the Lungau Region: 4 nights, incl. 3-day ski pass valid for the ski areas of Aineck-Katschberg-Grosseck/Speiereck and Fanningberg available from us here at the Hotel GELL!!!
